Sirka Mooli ka Achar | Radish pickled in Vinegar

Sirka Mooli ka achar – An extremely easy  to  make winter special mooli [radish] pickle.

Sirka mooli is a gut – friendly and healthy pickle, usually made during winter but you can make it in any season if good quality radish is available near you. As the most crunchiest and best tasting radishes for this recipe are found in winters, this pickle is made using just 2 ingredients and takes only 10-15 minutes for preparation.

Sirka mooli is very nutritious, is low in calorie as it is oil free, aids in digestion, boosts immunity, and promotes heart health. It is a probiotic packed with Vitamin C  and antioxidants. Radishes are also rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin B, magnesium and phosphorus.

This sirka mooli ka achar can be made with any vinegar available, however, the best option is too use sugar cane vinegar. In rural areas, they use only sugar cane juice to make this. This specific vinegar is now easily available in supermarkets so if possible try to select that one or else use whatever vinegar you have.

The combination of radish and sugar cane juice creates a potent food that provides a lot of health benefits-

  • It enhances digestion. The acidic fermented vinegar relieves indigestion.
  • Immunity booster- high in Vitamin C and antioxidants that fight against winter ailments and illness.
  • Supports heart health and improves metabolism.
  • It is oil free and guilt free so you can eat whenever you wish too.
  • Detoxifies liver-containing compounds that aid in cleaning the liver and reduce cholesterol.

Ingredients

  • 350 ml Vinegar / Sirka
  • 2 Radish/ Mooli
  • few Green chili/hari mirch optional
  • few Ginger slices optional
  • to taste Salt / Namak
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds / Sabut Jeera

Instructions

  • Wash and peel the radish and chop into roundels.
  • Spread on a plate and keep in sunlight for few hours so the extra moisture dries up.
  • Wash and slit the chilies and peel and slice the ginger (addition of ginger and chilies is totally optional, but both taste good in the pickle )
  • Now add the vinegar in a glass jar and add salt and roasted and crushed cumin seeds powder, you can also add some chili powder if you want to make it spicy
  • Now add the sliced radish in the jar and mix. Make sure that the vinegar should fully cover the radishes.
  • Cover and let it mature for a week at least then start using.
  • It stays fresh for more than a year.
  • Enjoy this healthy guiltfree pickle with your meal

Notes

Note-
  • you can use any vinegar of your choice if sugar cane vinegar is not available.
  • addition of cumin seed powder, chili powder, ginger and green chilies is optional .
