Cabbage Dum Aloo | Cabbage Potato Curry

Cabbage Dum Aloo- an easy to make delicious cabbage and potato curry in the pressure cooker.

Cabbage potato curry is a very delicious and interesting combination. You can make it in many variation and can combine  it with potato, peas ,carrots etc.  You can make so many variety of recipes with cabbage -Dry curry, gravy wali curry, pakoda, paratha, fried and steamed snacks , sandwiches etc.

Cabbage is also a healthy and nutritious vegetable , it is low in calories and rich in fiber. It boost immunity ,  It is good for digestion too. Sometimes it can cause flatulence and abdominal discomfort to some people , in that case eat in moderation and add asafoetida and ginger in the curry to help in digestion.

This semi thick Cabbage Dum Aloo  I tasted some time ago and since then I am making it often. It taste very good with paratha and roti but I love eating it with steamed rice .

Cabbage Dum Aloo

Ingredients

  • 600 gm Cabbage / Patta Gobhi
  • 4 medium Potatoes / Aloo 400 gm
  • 3 medium Tomatoes / Tamatar
  • 2 Green Chillies / Hari Mirch
  • 1 tsp Ginger / Adrak
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder / Haldi Powder
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli powder / Laal mirch powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder / Dhaniya Powder
  • pinch Garam Masala Powder
  • pinch Sugar / Chini
  • 4 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Coriander / Cilantro / Hara Dhaniya
  • 1/3 cup Green Peas / Hari Matar optional

Instructions

  • Wash and chop potatoes into big pieces and wash and chop the cabbage.
  • In the pressure cook add 1/2 tsp salt and 1 cup water and then add the chopped cabbage and on top of it place the potato pieces and pressure cook for 3 whistles on high heat
  • In a separate pan add mustard oil and then add cumin seeds ,bay leaf, 1 black cardamom, chopped green chili and asafoetida.
  • Now add chopped tomato ,green peas ginger and salt and cook till tomato become soft.
  • Add all the dry masala powders and saute and then add 1/2 cup water from the pressure cooker.(don't add all the water from the cooker)
  • Mix it and then add the boiled vegetables only. mix, cover with a lid and cook for 5 minutes on medium to low heat.
  • Add fresh coriander and serve with roti, paratha or rice.
  • Enjoy!
