Moong Dal Toast- A healthy filling roasted lentil and vegetable toast
This moong dal toast is a healthy, nutritious, and crispy recipe, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or to pack in a kids’ tiffin box. It is quite easy, quick, and filling.
This toast is a combination of lentils and vegetables, so it is full of protein, fiber, and carbs. You can add any vegetables of your or your kids’ choice to make it more colorful and healthier. It is roasted on a tawa, so it is low in calories. You can use ghee, butter, or olive oil as per your preference, or make it completely oil-free by using a non-stick pan for roasting.
You can also make it completely oil-free by using a non-stick pan for roasting it or cook it in an air fryer.
I have used brown bread, but you can use white bread, multigrain bread, sourdough, or any bread of your choice. Instead of yellow moong dal batter, you can use mixed dal batter , ground sprout batter ,gram flour (besan) batter or even leftover dosa batter for variation.
Make sure that the batter is thick. You can make the batter and keep it refrigerated for up to 3 days to use whenever needed.
Chopped or grated carrots, tomatoes, capsicum, corn, cabbage, green chilies, and fresh coriander go well in this moong dal toast, but you can add any vegetables available at home.
For seasoning I have used only few basic spices and herbs like asafoetida, chili powder, turmeric, salt and cumin seeds. Green chili, ginger and fresh coriander is totally optional and as per your preference. Baking soda is added to add fluffiness and make them crisp .You can also add oregano and crushed pepper in the batter . Can also grate some cheese or paneer on the hot toast before serving.
